We Need Your Help!

Bulletin:

Last night at approximately 9:14 P.M., the National Records Department in Washington D.C. burned to the ground. Nothing was left in the rubble but a few file cabinets, desks and chairs. All records were lost. The National Records Dept. housed many of the nations records, including; census information, medical, defense department, finance, and social security. Fortunately all of these records had been backed up on disk, and stored in a separate location. There was one list, that had not been backed up, the Nation Endangered Species List.

Amidst all of the turmoil of the fire, the director had forgotten the importance of the endangered species list. With an impending hunting season approaching, this could be a national disaster if something is not done.

The Problem

With the destruction of the National Endangered Species List, the nation is confronted with the problem of recreating the list from scratch. The list was so large that no one really knew what species were on the list. A panel has been fromed to hear arguments from designated researchers about recreating a list of endangered species. Because all records of why the species were endangered were lost in the fire, this has to be recreated too. There is one large problem looming over the whole process, hunting season begins next Friday and all of the hunters are gearing up for a season of open hunting on everything in the forest. This cannot happen.

Your Job:

You have been assigned the job of choosing one animal (from the list given) that you believe to be endangered. The list given to you is an approximate list of animals that may have been on the original endangered species list. We are not sure how accurate it is scientist, animal activist, and unfortunately two hunters who do not want to see any of the animals pass and make it to the list.

You will have one week to research, create a presentation (on the standard display board given), formulate an arguement to defend your animal and fight for the right that your animal should be put on the list. The panel has given a list of minimum requirements for the presentation to be heard. Please adhere to these requirements, you will not be heard if these are not met.

Minimum requirements for presentation and argument:

  • All information must be neat and organized
  • There must be extensive background information
  • Pictures of your animal in its natural habitat
  • Maps showing the location, predominance, and danger areas of your animal
  • Graph depicting the decline of population that your animal has gone through
  • Graphs that depict your predictions (based on previous information) of the future population of your animal if it is protected, and if not.
  • A clear and organized speech to be given to the board that argues the rights of your animal, and the need to protect it.
  • A written argument that is attached to the presentation board that states your argument.

The only way that your animal can be saved is if all of the above requirements are met. Your animal needs you, don't let him down. Good Luck!
