Lesson Title: Video Production
Lesson Description: This lesson allows students first hand experience in the creation of video programming for the local community. Students will experience professional production techniques as well as their own amateur efforts in producing, directing, acting and editing a show of their own creation.

Resources needed:
Video camera, TV/VCR, Writing Materials, assorted props available in the school settingPreparation for Teacher:
1. Arrange field trip to Valley Vision for observation of the studio equipment and set.
2. Secure resources for video production.
3. Secure sample shows for student introductions.
Choose theme for students to work from, such as sports, community service, school groups, favorite season cooking, science experiment, nature.
5. Introduce unit to students with overview and expectations of final outcome.
Students directions:
1. Watch sample shows and brainstorm how many people are involved in producing a television show. (producer,
director, actors/participants, camera operators, editor, script writer)2. Visit the studio and speak with Bill Edmond and Michael English regarding their role at Valley Vision.
3. Write a flow chart or web showing the steps involved in producing a show.
4. Break into groups and decide on an idea from the chosen theme for their 2-3 minute show.
5. Write a proposal for the show including names of students, show title, materials needed, job for each student in the
group, and an outline of the show.6. Practice shows and prepare for taping.
7. Tape show.
8. Watch the unedited version of taped shows.
9. Return to Valley Vision to participate in the editing process through observation and hands on experience.
10. Have students evaluate themselves, their group and their peers.
