According to Pink, the key to success lies in developing and cultivating six senses: design, story, symphony, empathy, play, and meaning. In fact, Pink compares the Conceptual Age to past periods of intense change, such as the Renaissance and the Industrial Revolution. Can't get bigger than that."

TEACHER EXTERNSHIP PROGRAM ~ HOW IT WORKS
Summer, 2006 Students often ask their teachers, "Why do I have to learn this?" How do we engage them more in learning? Teachers: • Take the opportunity this summer to work in a business/organization for a short time (from 1 or two days to a week) to learn ways that your subject is used in the workplace. • Gain valuable experience and information to add relevance to your classroom. • Develop a community partner to work with you on a classroom project. • Learn about workplace or relevant community issues that might "hook" your students into learning new concepts. • The summer externship program is an opportunity to experience firsthand how practical application of your subject matter is implemented in the business world. You will also learn what skills are needed in a particular career field and gain insight into the challenges facing business, industry and social service agencies. • Employers find that they have received skilled assistance with their projects and feel that the experience brings a greater understanding between the employees and the teacher. You will receive a stipend of $90 a day for this project and note this experience can be used for professional development. Educators who are interested in the program should complete the application form below explaining their interests and goals and email or fax to: They may make contact with a business on their own or contact Betsy Gemmecke to learn about businesses who have expressed interest in hosting a teacher. This year there is a limited pool of money for all of the teachers in SAU #9 and #13. Teachers will be selected on a first come first served basis. Selected teachers will be responsible for meeting with their workplace supervisors, and setting up a mutually convenient schedule. This will eliminate the possibility for confusion.
