Youth Service America Invites Applications for State Farm Good Neighbor Service-Learning Grant Deadline: October 16, 2006 Youth Service America http://www.ysa.org and the State Farm Companies Foundation www.statefarm.com/about/part_spos/grants/foundati.asp are offering the State Farm Good Neighbor Service-Learning Grant for youth across the United States. These grants of up to $1,000 each support youth (ages 5-25), teachers, or school-based service-learning coordinators in implementing service-learning projects for National and Global Youth Service Day http://www.ysa.org/nysd/, April 20-22, 2007. Projects can address any number of themes including the environment, disaster relief, health, teen issues, education, interfaith dialogue, intergenerational relationships, homelessness, and literacy, among others. International Reading Association Invites Entries for Presidential Award for Reading and Technology Deadline: November 15, 2006 The International Reading Association is accepting applications for the Presidential Award for Reading and Technology, an annual award designed to honor educators in grades K-12 or equivalent who are making an outstanding and innovative contribution to the use of technology in reading education. This award is sponsored by PLATO Learning http://www.plato.com and presented at the International Reading Association Annual Convention. The grand prize winner, selected as the best application from across all the eligible regions, will receive a $1,000 prize plus expenses ($2,000 maximum) to attend the IRA Annual Convention. Nine additional winners -- seven U.S. regional winners (Southeast, Plains, Rocky Mountain, Southwest, West, East, and Great Lakes), one Canadian winner, and one winner from outside North America -- will each receive a $500 prize. All entrants must be educators who work directly with students ages 5-18 for all or part of the working day. Educators who work in public, parochial, or private elementary, middle, or high schools in the United States are eligible for the U.S. regional awards. Educators who work with students ages 5-18 in a public or private school in Canada are eligible for the Canadian award. Educators in all other countries, including U.S. Territories and APO schools, are eligible for the international award. All entries are eligible for the grand prize. Entries incorporating any brand of computers, operating systems, software applications, and other technologies such as TV or video are acceptable. American Association of University Women Educational Foundation Accepting Applications for Community Action Grants Deadline: January 15, 2007One of the world's largest sources of funding exclusively for graduate women, the American Association of University Women Educational Foundation supports aspiring scholars around the globe, teachers and activists in local communities, women at critical stages of their careers, and those pursuing professions where women are underrepresented.
In 2007-08, the foundation's Community Action Grants program will award one- and two-year grants. One-year grants ($2,000 to $7,000) provide seed money for new projects. Topic areas are unrestricted, but should include a clearly defined activity that promotes education and equity for women and girls. Two-year grants ($5,000 to $10,000) provide start-up funds for longer-term programs that address the particular needs of the community and develop girls' sense of efficacy through leadership or advocacy opportunities. Applicants must be women who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Grant projects must have direct public impact, be nonpartisan, and take place within the United States or its territories.
